Mrs. Scheit has been teaching for 12 years and 10 of them have been at Holy Angels. She attended Concordia University Wisconsin and received her degree in K-12 General Music, Choral Music and Theater Education. In addition to being the music teacher at Holy Angels, Mrs. Scheit also runs the before school chorus program as well as the Forensics team. Mrs. Scheit teaches Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
K3 | During Trimester 1 we will be learning about songs and learning about the parts (beginning, middle and end)(finding the steady beat) We use rhythm instruments to play along and keep the beat with music. |
K4 | We will start out the year learning about steady beats and how to find this in a song. We use rhythm instruments to show the difference between rhythm and steady beat. We use classroom instruments to have fun and play along and practice our new skills. |
K5 | We started the year reviewing elements of music such as steady beat and tempo. We have also talked about the instruments of the orchestra and will be learning a fun song that helps us identify the 4 instrument families. We will also be using classroom instruments to help us practice our new skills. |
1st | We will be reviewing what timbre in music is and how each musical instrument has qualities that make them individual as well as members of a musical family. We will use the musical story of Peter and the Wolf to reinforce this, and students will be creating Peter and the Wolf story instrument story books. |
2nd | We are learning about the elements of music, dynamics, tempo and rhythm. We use rhythm instruments and boomwhackers to perform rhythmic passages using quarter, eighth notes and quarter rests. We compose rhythm passages using fall words and standard notation. The students will also create rhythm flash cards that they can use to practice identifying notes and rests. |
3rd | We began the year learning about the elements of music tempo and form. We listened to different musical examples and respond using what we learned about to identify the form. We learned about musical symbols and what they mean when they are in music. We will also begin exploring the Treble Clef and identify musical note names. This will prepare us for January when we start playing recorders. The fall is all about learning how to read standard music notation. |
4th | We started out the year reviewing about the notes and rests values. We tested on these skills and then started applying them when we began playing our recorders again. Our first songs that we are learning are focusing on the base notes of B A and G. We will then review C and D and expand into the lower register. We look forward to learning Christmas songs to preform at the Christmas Concert this year. |
5th | We started out the year reviewing about the notes and rests values. We tested on these skills and then started applying them when we began playing hand bells. We will learn about Melody and Descant and are going to be learning the song "Awesome God". this song demonstrates how two musical ideas can work together to create a complex song and melody line with a harmony and bass line. |
6th | We began the year learning about the history of the guitar, as well as the parts of the acoustic guitar. The guitars will be assigned to the students and they will began learning how to hold them by watching teaching videos posted to google classroom. Our next step is to start learning the notes on the first, second and third string as well as begin to form chords. |
7th | We began the year learning about the history of Opera. We learned about the parts and the voice classes of people involved in the work. After learning about this they will be tested to check for understanding. We will next be moving into learning about Operettas and musicals and will watch “The Pirates of Penzance” to show an example of this genre. |
8th | We began the year reviewing the grand staff and how to read music as an ensemble. We then learned about hand chimes and how to play them as a group as well as individual technique in creating quality sound. We will practice as a group and will be learning an ensemble performance to test individual learning. The class will also be playing as a complete ensemble in mass twice during the fall for a performance grade. |
